Ongoing Social Action Activities
November 6/7:  Tents of Hope for Darfur We will decorate the tent with messages for those who will ultimately live in it in Darfur.  Special Collection: for Tents of Hope tent purchase.  Our goal is $500 to purchase a tent with remaining dollars collected going to meet the needs of families in Darfur.  Project Leader:  Helen Powling.

December:  Mitten Wreath

Alternative Gift Ideas from the Simplicity Covenant Group

Special Project:  January/February  at the Warming Shelter  Their specific need will be determined and like our painting project with the Literacy Coalition last year, we hope to help where it is needed and make a noticeable difference at the Shelter.   Project Leader:  TBD  Connie Raether will contact them to assess their expected needs for that time.  Contact Jeanine Knapp if you would like to help lead.

Special Project:  Early February   Clean Your Closet
Bring in your clean, gently used clothing to be distributed to the Community Clothes Closet, Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul and the Fox Valley Thrift Shoppe.  When you are out and about during the months prior, purchase an extra set of underwear and/or socks for this special collection.  We would like to get the word out to schools so students and their families throughout the community can participate.  Project Leader:  TBD  Help to lead this project is welcome.  Contact Jeanine Knapp if you would like to help lead.

April: Bread for the World Letter Offering

May:  Alternative Mothers Day.  Leader:  Elly and Nadine Miller.  Last year our first Alternative Mothers Day resulted in contributions of over $1,200 to the Housing Partnership of the Fox Valley and meant that some mothers received hope while others had less hand lotion on Mothers Day.

This tentative schedule reflects our goal of mixed social actions which allow us to contribute with hands on efforts, engaging others, building our own community and supporting contributions of money and time to help heal the world.  In all of our efforts we want to show that we Stand on the Side of Love
