Social Justice Task Forces

The 2012-2013 proposed Social Justice Task Forces are listed below. We will also continue to support the social justice work of our partners ESTHER (the Fox Valley's interfaith social justice network) and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) . All Fellowship members and friends are warmly invited to get involved with any of these Social Justice activities that will do your heart good and fit in your life.

Hunger and Homelessness Task Force (click on link for more information)

Purpose: To ensure adequate food & shelter in the Fox Valley and beyond; to work to address obstacles which stand in the way of people being able to meet these needs for themselves.

UU Principles that give us inspiration:

·         The inherent worth & dignity of every person

·         Justice, equity and compassion in human relations

Some ideas we have for initial activities:

·         Continue to engage Fellowship members in providing meals and other necessities to homeless people in the community

·         Sponsor educational events at the Fellowship about the programs of Fox Valley agencies and the needs of people regarding food and shelter.

Reproductive Justice Task Force

Purpose: To raise our voices, as people of this faith community, in support of the moral agency of all women regarding these issues of reproductive health:

Access to comprehensive, medically accurate and age appropriate sexuality education.

Access to all birth control methods as medically recognized methods of preventative health care.

Access to all health care screenings related to reproductive health.

Access to legal, safe abortion procedures.

UU Principles that give us inspiration:

The inherent worth and dignity of every person.

The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process.

Some ideas we have for initial activities:

Collecting photos of people in support of access to birth control for a photographic petition for Congress and our state legislature.

Collecting stories in support of reinstating the Healthy Youth Act in Wisconsin.

Social Justice Core Team

Meets at 4:00 p.m. on April 24, May 29, June 26, & August 28th

The Core Team's purpose is to help the Fellowship fulfill the part of our new mission Leading in Social Justice. To do this, we will rely on our strong partnership with ESTHER. The trainings and methods that ESTHER offers give us the ability to be effective agents of change, while building relationships within our own congregation and with others who are our allies in building a better world.

The 3rd weekend of every month is Social Justice weekend.  Look for information in the lobby on opportunities to get involved in Social Justice activities at the Fellowship and in the community.

Beyond our Walls Brown Bag Lunch Program on Sunday, June 16 will feature Lou Hull, speaking on Riverview Gardens. Please join us from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Main Hall. All are invited.
