This Month in RE

The Summer Children's Religious Education Program is featured on this   page. Below is a sample outline for our program year curriculum. 

 

April and May

 

Preschool:

19/20   The children will have fun with My World Has Water and learn about ways to use this precious water in a responsible way.

 

26/27     My World Has Air will help the children understand that the air they breathe is the same as the air that moves the trees.

 

5/3-4    My World Has Darkness helps the children overcome their fear of the dark by exploring what is beautiful and magical about the darkness.

 

10/11   The children will explore the experience of beauty and magic of the world lit by sunlight in My World Has Light.

 

 

17/18   In their last lesson of this curriculum the children will learn I Can Celebrate learning, growing and being with friends in a wonder-filled world.

 

 

Grades K-2

19/20       Children will learn about Thomas Starr King, Universalist minister in San Francisco, who is credited with keeping California in the Union as a non-slaveholding state.

 

26/27     Preparing for May Day the children will learn a bit of the history and customs of this holiday and create May Baskets.

 

5/3-4   Today the children will learn about A Man Who Loved Celebrations Reverend Norbert Capek who developed the much loved Flower Communion we celebrate in the spring.

 

10/11   The children will think about Our Favorite Holiday gaining a greater awareness of seasonal holidays and the traditions associated with them.

 

17/18   For the closing of this RE year the children will learn about our Partner UU Churches in many places in the world and celebrate the end of this program.

 

Grades 3-5

19/20       This weekend the children will attend the Senior High Youth Group service at each of the three hours.

 

26/27     God is Like the Power to Create, Sustain, and Destroy will focus on the Hindu God image.

 

5/3-4   God is Like the Mother of All will focus on the feminine image of God

 

10/11    God is Like Cosmic Evolution is a lesson that explores the rich story of Cosmology and likens it to a God image.

 

17/18    For the closing of this RE year the children will learn about our Partner UU Churches in many places in the world and celebrate the end of this program.

 

Middle School Grades 6-8

4/19-20 through 5/17-18 This class will be continuing their study of World Religions by spending a number of weeks learning about Buddhism helping them understand this ancient religion which has become a growing tradition in Western as well as Eastern countries.
