This summer the children, ages 6-12, will have the opportunity to meet famous and not-so-famous Unitarian, Universalist, and Unitarian Universalist persons who have made a difference in our world. This group of Movers and Shakers might include William Howard Taft, Rod Serling, Christopher Reeves, Emily Taft Douglas, Gene Roddenberry, P.T. Barnum, or Louisa May Alcott. This curriculum is designed to be easy to use during the summer as well as fun and informative. Registration is not required. Please plan to have your children participate whenever you are in town during the summer months. Angela Lewis, Kim Keyser, Dawn Hagan and Bridget Kramer will be sharing the coordinating responsibilities. If you are willing to help by doing a 30-minute presentation that might include games, a dramatization, or music on one Sunday during the summer please let Fellowship Secretary This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it know of your interest. me if I can be of assistance to you.” In harmony with the mission of the Fellowship, and in concert with parents as primary spiritual guides for their children, The RE Program will provide structured programming to equip the children with the tools they may need for their life-long spiritual growth.
You may fill out the registration form for your child by clicking here: 2007-2008 Program Year: RE Registration Form 2008-2009 Program Year: RE Registration Form Nursery Care Staffed child care is provided for children birth to age three in our dedicated nursery during every worship service. Parents are asked to bring their well infant or toddler to the nursery several minutes before the beginning of a scheduled worship. We endeavor to provide young children with a warm, accepting, and safe space in which to become acquainted with our faith community. Every effort is made to assure that children are content and engaged during the time their parents are in worship. Parents will be notified if their presence is needed for the welfare of their child by a pager system.
Preschool UU curriculum for this age group helps children learn about themselves, their faith community, and the world around them. It is based on the belief that preschool children gain a sense of belonging to religious community and the UU faith when they have concrete experiences with its people, places, and values. Information about the current curriculum is available by clicking on What’s Happening In RE This Month. This class meets Saturday at 4:30 pm, Sunday at 9:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
Elementary Grade Classes We are proud to be able to provide a customized program for elementary school children including Children’s Chapel and curricula written or adapted for this congregation by members of the community. We believe worship is a significant part of the spiritual journey for children and therefore include weekly time for Chalice Lighting, sharing of Joys & Concerns, stories, presentations, and music. Because a spirit of generosity is important, we take a weekly offering in the Children’s Chapel. Following chapel children usually go to class for a lesson based on those areas we have identified as necessary for growth as religious persons. These topics include UU history and identity, social action, peace and justice, and world religions. Using theories of multiple intelligences we endeavor to engage all children in the program through the use of art, music, drama, activities, discussion, and action projects. Our current curriculum information is available under What’s Happening In RE This Month. This class meets Saturday at 4:30 p.m., Sunday at 9:15 a.m. and Sunday at 10:45 p.m.
There is a meaningful transition from elementary to middle school and we honor that transition by offering a middle school program that meets in a self-contained space. This group of young people, grades 6, 7, and 8, and their teachers create their own sacred time and space, guided by UU curricula designed for the unique learning needs of this age group. For information on the current program go to What’s Happening in RE This Month. This class meets on Saturday’s at 4:30 p.m. only.
Unitarian Universalists have long recognized the connection between spirituality and human sexuality. This congregation is committed to presenting appropriate sexuality education to children, youth, and adults across the lifespan. Especially important is the Our Whole Lives program offered to youth in grades eight and nine. Typically this program is offered every other year, opposite the year in which the Coming of Age program meets.
